A Ram mantra is a sacred utterance or hymn in praise of Lord Rama, one of the most revered Hindu deities. The sacred observance of Ram Navami offers Hindus a special opportunity for introspection and spiritual contemplation. In this regard, the recitation of mantras and hymns dedicated to Lord Rama assumes a significant role during the festivities, serving not only as a means to please Lord Rama but also as a pathway to divine connection.
Chanting the name of Lord Rama (Ram Naam or Rama Nama) is considered an act of devotion to Lord Rama. Another effective and powerful mantra for Ram Navami is “Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram”, meaning glory to Lord Rama. This is the mantra Hanuman is always chanting, and for this it is also known as the “Hanuman mantra”.

What is a mantra?
The word Mantra is derived from the Sanskrit words “manas” meaning mind, and “trai” meaning to protect, to free from. So a mantra is in effect a device to liberate your mind. It is a sacred utterance, message, text, or hymn. Mantras are very powerful for spiritual awakening and for helping the devotee connect with the divine.
Mantra Chanting
When chanting mantras there are some rules that need to be observed. Starting with a clean body, the devotee must chant facing the north or east. It is highly desirable to wear white clothes, not only as a sign of devotion, but also because white color enhances spirituality. The mantras should be chanted 9, 27, 54, 108 or 1,008 times, thrice per day. Additionally, in order to obtain the maximum benefit the mantras should be chanted for 48 consecutive days.
Siddha Mantras for Lord Rama
Siddha means proven, so a Siddha Mantra is a mantra that has been proven to be effective. There are two types of Siddha mantras: Two syllable mantras that are used in silent meditation and never spoken in public, and eight syllable mantras that can be used in meditation but are also used in public situations such as chanting. The importance of the mantra is to awaken the devotee spiritually.
Devotees chant Rama Mantras in order to seek Lord Rama’s blessings and protection. Some of these Mantras are very popular and very effective. One vertical line at the end of a mantra is a period indicating end of a sentence, while two vertical lines indicate end of a stanza.
The Ram Mantra
रामाय रामभद्राय रामचन्द्राय वेधसे ।
रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः ॥
Ramaya Ramabhadraya Ramachandraya Vedasey,
Raghunaathaaya Naathaaya Seethaayaah Pathaye Namaha
Salutations to Lord Rama, the most auspicious one, who shines like the moon. He who is mentioned in the Vedas, the descendant of the Raghu dynasty. The consort of Sita and Lord of the whole world.
Ram Moola mantra
ॐ श्री रामाय नमः॥
Om Shri Ramaya Namah॥
Om and salutations to Rama, the protector and bestower of happiness and inner peace.
Hanuman Moola mantra
ॐ श्री हनुमते नमः॥
Om Shri Hanumate Namah॥
I pray to Lord Hanuman to grant me strength and stamina.
Ram Taraka mantra
श्री राम जय राम जय जय राम॥
Sri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama॥
Victory to God with his Shakti.
The Taraka mantra helps the devotee purify himself and bestows strength to overcome life’s challenges. It keeps the devotee on the path of dharma and liberates from Samsara.
Ram Gayatri mantra

सीतावल्लभाय धीमहि
तन्नो राम प्रचोदयात्॥
Om Dasharathaya Vidmahe
Sita Vallabhaya Dheemahe,
Thanno Rama Prachodayath॥
Om, let me meditate on the son of Dasharatha, Oh, consort of Sita, grant me higher intellect and let Lord Rama illuminate my mind.
The Ram Gayatri mantra gives clarity of thought and judgement. It eliminates darkness from the mind and gives wisdom and enlightenment.
Ram Kodanda mantra
श्री राम जय राम कोदण्ड राम॥
Shri Rama Jaya Rama Kodanda Rama॥
The Lord Rama with the kodanda is victorious.
The Kodanda is the bow Lord Rama holds in his hand. Invoking Lord Kodhanda Rama, meaning Lord Rama wielding the Kodhanda, brings blessing and protection to the devotee.
Ram Dhyana mantra
ॐ आपदामपहर्तारम् दाताराम् सर्वसम्पदाम्।
लोकाभिरामम् श्रीरामम् भूयो-भूयो नमाम्यहम्॥
Om Apadamapahartaram Dataram Sarvasampadam।
Lokabhiramam Shriramam Bhuyo-Bhuyo Namamyaham॥
I bow to Lord Sri Rama who is the most beautiful, who removes sadness and grieves and gives wealth to devotees.
Deriving from the Sanskrit word “dhyana”, meaning meditation, the Rama Dhyana mantra eradicates sorrow and grief from the devotee’s life.
Ram Raksha mantra
श्री राम शरणम् मम्

I take refuge to Lord Ram.
“Raksha” is a Sanskrit word meaning protection, so this is a very effective mantra to ask for Lord Rama’s protection.

Daily reciting of the Ram mantras is of utmost importance, especially during Ram Navami. According to Maha Guru Sri Agasthiar (or Agastya), the most revered sage and one of the Saptarishis, there are specific Rama mantras for praising Lord Rama daily.
Monday (Somvar) Ram Mantra

According to legend, Raghu, was an ancestor of Rama and one of the great kings of that dynasty. This is why the Solar dynasty is also known as the dynasty of Raghu. The Sri Rama Shloka
The word Shloka, meaning song or poem, is a couplet in which each line contains 16 syllables. The Shloka, whose origins can be traced back to the Vedic period, is considered the basis for epic Indian poetry.
The “Sri Rama Shloka” or “Rama Rama Rameti”, is revered as one of the most powerful ones, with tremendous benefits for the devotee. Lord Rama’s devotees believe that this Shloka is as powerful as the thousand names of God Vishnu.
