Ram Chalisa - Deus Today

Ram Chalisa: One of the Most Beautiful & Spiritual Hindu Hymns

The Ram Chalisa or Sri Ram Chalisa is a long, devotional hymn to worship Lord Rama. It was composed between the 16th-17th century A.D. by Tulsidas, a Hindu saint and poet who was renowned for his deep devotion to Rama. The hymn praises the various attributes and virtues of Lord Rama, such as his courage, wisdom, compassion, and devotion.

Furthermore, it narrates some of the most significant events and stories of Lord Rama’s life, such as his birth, his victory over the ten-headed demon Ravana, and his return to Ayodhya, where he was crowned king.

The Ram Chalisa is chanted during religious ceremonies, festivals such as Ram Navami, and of course daily worship. Reciting the hymn is a powerful spiritual practice that can help the devotee develop a deeper connection with the divine and attain spiritual liberation.

O Lord Ram saviour of the devotees, please listen to our request

The one who contemplates on Shiva in his mind, gets through with Brahma and Indra

Hail O Lord of Raghus the merciful, please look after your children like a parent.

Stanza 2

Your arms are huge O merciful, with them you killed monsters like Ravanna

You are the parent to orphans, like a shepherd is to sheep, always helpful to the oppressed

Even Brahma and others cannot compare to you, they too sing your praise

The four Vedas assure us that you protect the dignity of your devotees

The one who carries your name in his mind, is blessed like no other

Stanza 4

The name of Ram is eternal, the four Vedas proclaim this

Ganesha chants your name, as you have made him the foremost god to be worshipped

Shesh repeats your name continuously, as you bear his weight on your head

That weight is as light as a flower to you, you have no comparison

Stanza 5

Bharat held your name in his heart, he was never defeated in any battle

Shatrughna made your name shine in his heart and defeated all the enemies with ease

Lakshman obeyed all your wishes and you look after him like a parent

No one can win against you in a war, they are bound to lose to you

Stanza 6

Sita sang Rama’s divine name and showed her power as goddess earth

She emerged from a pot, and the moon blushed upon seeing her

The one who regularly touches your feet, surrenders his life unto you

Though there are other lords too, Sita chose you as her lord

Although there are millions of desires, you decide which ones to fulfill

The one who contemplates on your feet, his salvation becomes easy

Stanza 8

All hail the god who is bright as light, omniscient, omnipotent and beyond description

You are the lord of truth which is eternal and internal

The one who sings your prayer with true devotion, definitely earns all the four boons

Those who have taken the oath to follow the truth, you have given them all the blessings

Stanza 9

You are our father, O Ram, you are to be worshipped by the whole Bharat dynasty

O Ram, you are guardian of our soul, O beloved son of Dasharath

Stanza 10

You are the heart of all knowledge, we bow to you, Lord of the universe

You are glorious, your name makes all problems disappear

The true pure devas praise the Lord, and the drums are beaten and the conch blown

You are the eternal truth, you are our body, soul and treasure

Stanza 11

Whoever recites this, wisdom fills his heart

Thus the circle of birth and death is avoided,

which are the words of truth, as agreed by lord Shiva

And all desires of heart shall be fulfilled

Stanza 12

The one who contemplates on the Lord at all three times,

and worships with basil leaves, flowers and other green leaves, that man earns all the powers

At the end, he goes to lord Ram’s abode and then he is called the true devotee for all his lifetime

Sri Haridas says whoever recites this prayer, reaches heaven.

Doha

Those who recite for seven days, will bring peace to mind

Haridas attained devotion through the grace of the lord,

And those who read Ram Chalisa focus their mind on Rama’s feet,

whatever desire they have in their mind shall be fulfilled.
